Emmepi Textile Facility in Kikinda Closes After 13 Years – Sixty Workers Lose Jobs
Sixty workers, mostly women, lost their jobs. Emmepi produced female legwear exclusively, as semi-products.
This is a direct consequence of the pandemic-induced economic crisis. The owners of Emmepi, sisters Luciana and Laura Orlandi, decided to shut down the factory after 13 years of operations in northern Banat. They started producing in Kikinda in 2007 when they moved the production activities they used to have in Romania.
Around 75% of the products were made for Italy, and the rest was meant for the Serbian market. It seems, however, that this arrangement is no longer profitable, as the facility was located in a rented space.
