Gold Gondola Officially Opens on Zlatibor
The construction of the gondola started in 2016 and cost EUR 13 million. The Municipality of Cajetina financed the construction entirely from its own budget.
A ride in one direction, from Obudojevica, through the interstation at the Ribnica Lake, to the end station on Tornik, at an altitude of 1,496 meters, takes 25 minutes, and 55 cabins can transport 600 passengers an hour.
The maximum capacity of the gondola is 90 cabins and 1,000 passengers an hour.
New investments on Zlatibor have been announced, which are to upgrade the tourism on that mountain. As previously announced, at the interstation at the Ribnica Lake, the development of the project New Zlatibor is planned, for high-category tourism, on over 200 hectares of land.
The expectations are that the investment in the gondola will pay off in ten years, when Zlatibor is expected to become the most visited travel destination in Serbia and the region, with 10 million overnight stays a year and around a million visitors.
The entire installation of the gondola was carried out in accordance with the highest environmental standards, in cooperation with the French company Pomagalski.
