Artificial Heart Soon Commercially Available at USD 180,000
After a long wait for the approval from the European Commission, mass production of artificial hearts is to begin finally. This invention will be of great help to patients with heart diseases and an alternative to donated organs.
Stephane Piat, Carmat’s Chief Executive, said that the idea of the production of an artificial heart was almost 30 years old.
– An artificial heart functions as a real heart physiologically. It pulsates, it is blood-compatible and as an invention it is a new chapter in our company’s development – Piat said.
An artificial heart with a battery costs USD 180,000, and according to the producer, it is designed in a way that enables it to replace a real human heart for years.
