A new product, omega-3 beef, will soon become available at the outlets of the meat packing company MS-Alem from Bosanska Krupa.

This is a functional product, beef enriched with essential omega-3 fatty acids which benefit human health in multiple ways, according to the website of the Biotechnical Faculty in Bihac.

As a limited-series product, omega-3 beef was created through joint efforts of the Biotechnical Faculty at the University of Bihac, the company MS-Alem and the Ljubljana-based Emona RCP Development Food Center, through the project “The Modelling of Fatty-acid Content of Beef through Feeding”, financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science of the Government of FB&H.

– Within this project, through the feeding of fattening cattle with a specially prepared concentrate that contains linseed (Linum usitatissimum), beef was produced that contains a nutritionally beneficial fatty-acid composition, that is, a favorable ratio between omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, compared to the traditionally produced beef – it is said.
