Strategy for Development of Serbian Winemaking Adopted – Increase of Quality of Wine, Consumption, Education of Consumers…
The idea to prepare this strategy was the result of the cooperation of the ministries of agriculture and finance and the Association of Winemakers and Viticulturists of Serbia (SVVS), and the job of drafting the strategy was entrusted to the international consulting agency Horwath HTL, which has great experience in preparing strategies for the promotion of wine regions.
The news that the document has been accepted and that everything is ready for the realization to begin was announced by SVVS:
– After more than a year of hard work on drafting the Strategy, the Association is proud to announce that the Government of Serbia has adopted a ten-year program for the development of winemaking and viticulture at today’s regular session. This laid a strong foundation and opened a wide path for the development of our sector.
Marko Malicanin, the president of SVVS, says for the Vino & Fino portal that the importance of the adopted strategy is invaluable, because it covers and upgrades all aspects of the winemaking and viticulture sector:
– We have been working on this for more than a year, but coronavirus put a stop to all activities for a while. However, since March, we have had a range of working meetings with representatives of the Government of Serbia and the Horwath HTL agency. In concrete terms, the strategy is a very thorough document, which, through eighteen “pillars” touches all spheres of the wine sector, from increasing the vine growing areas, consolidating vineyards, re-parceling, improvement of the education system, where plenty of flaws have been detected, marketing activities, emphasizing the geographic origin. There’s still plenty of work, but we are entering the new year with a load off our shoulders. The adoption of the strategy in 2020 enables the planning of the activities and the budget for 2021 – says Marko Malicanin and adds:
– The result of the implementation of this strategy is supposed to be an increase in the quality of wine, an increase in the consumption, education of the consumers, suppression of the shadow economy, the setting up of a healthy foundation for the creation of quality domestic planting material and, in general, the turning of winemaking into a serious, big industry – Malicanin says.
