By the end of the year, Serbia will finish the construction of the Data Center in Kragujevac, the largest of its kind in the region, the director of the Office for IT and eGovernment, Mihailo Jovanovic, said at the Digital Summit of the Western Balkans.

Taking part in the online panel on cyber security, within the second day of the Digital Summit, hosted in Tirana this year, he pointed out that it would be a large regional data center, where, in addition to the government's and other state organs' data, all the data of the city administrations companies and institutions and the data on the citizens, would be stored.

– The center will have the highest standards and big capacities – Jovanovic pointed out.

The State Data Center in Kragujevac will have a capacity of nearly 1,200 rack cabinets and be five times larger than the State Data Center in Belgrade. It will feature two facilities of around 14,000 m2.

The Data Center meets the highest standards for this type of facility, the standard which proscribes the general aspects of the facility and the infrastructure required for the support to TC operations in data centers (SPRS EN 50600), the standard which ensures availability (TIER 4) and the standard which ensures full redundancy, that is, full duplication of processes within a data center (2N).

Jovanovic emphasized that the Serbian cyber space would be the most secure one and have the best conditions for startups and large companies.

He pointed out that all countries were facing a global crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic and that the current events best illustrated the importance of digitalization. Jovanovic adds that digital transformation and cyber security must go hand in hand, due to various threats and consequences that data hacking in the public and the private sector could cause.
