The light signalization for reduced visibility conditions will be installed at the runway of the Nis Constantine the Great Airport by the end of the year. The entire project is being financed by the state, with budget funds of EUR 1 million.

With the installation of the light signalization, the ALS system will be completed.

The Nis Constantine the Great Airport has the most favorable weather conditions in the region – only two to three foggy days in a year. For that reason, it has always been a good alternative to the Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.

The procurement of X-ray devices, scanners, metal detector gates and other equipment necessary for the control of passengers, luggage and goods for a safe transport with aircraft from the Nis Airport, has also been completed.

The period of the ban on flights, due to the epidemic, was used at the Nis Ariport for the preparation of a space where the construction of a new terminal building is to start next year.

– The works will be carried out in phases so that the airport can function normally, and the construction should be completed by 2023. The new building will be meant for the departing passengers, with commercial features and rooms necessary for the operation of airport services. The existing building will also be reconstructed and adapted to the new complex. It will be a space for the arriving passengers and the employees at the Aerodromi Srbije company. What remains is to finish the preparation of the terrain for the expansion of the platform and the taxiway – Zdravkovic says.

After the completion of these project, the Nis Airport will have 10,000 square meters of space, which will provide all the necessary comfort to the citizens who use the services of the airport. The estimate is that the construction and the equipment of the new terminal building will cost 7 to 9 million euros, and the funds will come from the budget of the Republic of Serbia.

Aerodromi Srbije signed an agreement on a long term lease for the construction of a new control tower with the Serbia and Montenegro Air Traffic Services (SMATSA) this January. The epidemic has considerably slowed down the preparation of the preliminary design, but the plan for the construction to start in 2021 is still in effect, the company says.
