Hrvatska Elektroprivreda to Carry Out Biggest Project Yet in Lika – Second Phase of Construction of Senj Hydropower System Worth EUR 450 Million Begins
This is the second phase of the Senj hydropower system, of a total capacity of 412 MW, the Hina agency reports.
The development of this project, with occasional pauses, has been ongoing for decades, and the current management of Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) has only just now reached investment decisions for both segments of that project and initiated the investment.
Positive decisions on the environmental feasibility of both structures and location permits were obtained, in 2019 for Kosinj and in 2020 for Senj 2.
Along with the construction of these two large structures, tunnels and roads, the project involves the flooding of villages, the payment of compensation to all residents, the construction of a residential building, proper storage of cultural and other goods from the area to be flooded, churches and as many as five graveyards, Vecernji List writes.
