The negotiations on strategic partnership between domestic Jat Airways and Turkish Airlines are heading in a good direction. The Turkish company's delegation was staying in Belgrade at the end of the last week, and more information on possible agreement may be available on Thursday. As Blic learns, that is when Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković, the Minister of Economy, Mlađan Dinkić, the Minister of Infrastructure, Milutin Mrkonjić, and the CEO of Jat, Srđan Radovanović, will have the meeting whose main theme will be strategic partner for national airliner.

According to unofficial information, the talks between the representatives of Jat and Turkish Airliners were constructive for the first time. However, Blic was unable to find out from the people in Jat whether some concrete agreement was made because they are not allowed to reveal anything "without the consent of the other side". As we learn, another meeting of the two companies may be held in April.

The State Secretary for Air Traffic in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Miodrag Miljković, pointed out last week that Jat Airways was communicating with Turkish Airlines without the mediation of the representatives of Serbian Government.

- These are only informative talks, which are the occasion for the management of Jat Airways to present its business results, provide the information on the state of the company and its fleet, number of employees, possible redundancy, social program and other issues - Miljković said on that occasion. He explained that it would depend on those contacts if Turkish Airlines would make the decision to start official negotiations on strategic partnership.

According to earlier announcements by the authorized people, the deadline for Jat to find strategic partner is the end of the year because the company with such old fleet would not be able to survive longer. On the other hand, Turkish company has the strategy for expand to the territory of the Balkans, while the acquisition of Jat would provide an already developed market.

In the opinion of experts, the strategic partner would have to invest in procurement of the new fleet immediately since it is more than necessary for Jat. The company's fleet currently includes 15 airplanes, nine of which are in use.

Other potential future strategic partners of Jat that have been mentioned so far are Russian Aeroflot and German Air Berlin, but only the Turkish company is still in the game. That was confirmed last week by the CEO of Jat, Srđan Radovanović, who said that the only serious negotiations were being led with Turkish Airlines.
