Ministry of Finance of Serbia: We are not negotiating with Chinese officials about buyout of debt for Bar-Boljare highway
The Ministry of Finance of Serbia has thereby denied the allegations of certain media in Montenegro that Serbia is close to reaching an agreement with China about buying out the Montenegrin debt related to the highway.
Several days ago, Montenegrin media announced that Serbia was completing the negotiations with Chinese officials about buying out the credit for the construction of the highway section through Montenegro from their Exim Bank.
Also, they unofficially claim that, in case Montenegro is unable to repay the debt, the only option is for Montenegro to lease a part of the highway to Serbia, the same way Sri Lanka leased its port to China for 99 years as it had been unable to repay the credit.
