Bypass route between Ostruznica and Orlovaca to be completed by end of year – Talks with Powerchina on continuation of bypass construction to Pancevo

(Illustration) The Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic announced that 7.7 km bypass route around Belgrade, between Ostruznica and Orlovaca will be completed and open for traffic by the end of the year.

After the meeting with contractors and representatives of PE Roads of Serbia held on September 11, 2020 at contractor's camp, she said that the talks with Power China on continuation of bypass construction from Bubanj Potok to Pancevo will resume next week.

The Minister stated that the Sector B of the Belgrade bypass will be completed on time, by 2022 whereas the works on Sector C to Pancevo are expected to begin in 2022.

The Acting Director of Roads of Serbia, Zoran Drobnjak said that the expropriation of land for bypass construction presents the biggest challenge.

The Powerchina General Manager for Serbia, Jiang Bo expressed gratitude for the big support to the company in realizing this investment and pointed out they are putting in a great deal of effort to meet project deadline.

He added that many pending issues were resolved in the meeting.

– We as contractors are positive that the project will be done within given time and will be of utmost quality, Jiang said.

The adviser for economic and commercial affairs of the Chinese embassy, Tang Xiaodong emphasized the huge importance of the project for both Belgrade and the traffic across the country.

– Our shared goal is to finish this important project as soon as possible, Tang said and added that. so far, the investment is going according to plan.

The construction of the Belgrade bypass is worth around EUR 207 million. The Export-Import Bank of China is financing 85% of the works and 15% is financed from the budget of Serbia.
