Yesterday, the employers, the unions and the Government could not agree on the percentage of the increase of minimum wage for 2021 because all sides remained firm in their previous positions, said the economic consultant of the United Branch Unions “Nezavisnost” (UGS Nezavisnost), Zoran Ristic.

After the meeting where that three members of the Social-Economic Council (SES) tried to reach a compromise, he told Beta news agency that the Government representatives from the Ministry of Finance stood by their earlier suggestion that the minimum wage should see an 4-6 % increase.

– The employers agreed on the 10% increase in minimum wage provided the non-taxable salary component increased from RSD 16,000 to RSD 19,000, Ristic said.

He added that the unions kept the position that the monthly income must be sufficient for the minimum consumer basket which is RSD 37,500, an increase of 25% since the current minimum wage is around RSD 30,000.

– The unions think that despite the agreement from two years ago that the minimum wage should be equalized with the minimum consumer basket next year, the firm position of the Government representatives should influence the rise in emigration of quality work force, Ristic said.

He pointed out that the trade unions, UGS Nezavisnost and the Confederation of the Autonomous Trade Unions of Serbia (SSSS) figure that “the Serbian government is still oriented towards Serbia being a country of cheap labor.

Ristic said that SES session is scheduled for September 14 but that it wouldn't bring any concessions on minimum wage increase, since the parties involved have very conflicting opinions.

According to the Labor Law, if the employers, the unions and the Serbian Government reach no agreement on the minimum wage for next year by September 15, the decision will be reached by the Government.
