The Serbian company Planum has started reconstructing the runway at the airport in the town of Pevek on the Chukotka Peninsula, the northernmost town in the Russian Federation, the governor of Chukotka, Roman Kopin, wrote on his Instagram profile, as reported by the Russian media.

– On July 1, the reconstruction of the runway at the Pevek airport began. The contractor is Serbian company Planum, which has begun bringing in the materials and workers. From today, airline carriers Chukotavia and Yakutia will fly to Pevek, the flight schedule remains the same – the statement reads.

As said, the plan is for the works on the reconstruction of the runway to be finished in two seasons.

The reconstruction of the airport will, above all, enable the solving of the question of transport logistics, because, due to undeveloped airports in some areas in the region, the delivery of food and goods is very difficult.
