Silver Lake Airport Might Become Regional – Runway of 1,500 Meters With the Possibility of Expansion to be Built in the First Phase
This is said in the study for an early public review of the detailed regulation plan of the construction of the airport, commissioned by the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure of Serbia.
The plan says that the area for the construction of the airport covers parts of cadaster municipalities Veliko Gradiste, Kumane and Kisiljevo, in the zone of the forest complex Beli Bagrem, which, as said, is no longer needed for the construction of a golf course and the previously planned purpose.
– The area covered by the plan currently covers undeveloped agricultural land crossed by uncategorized roads and melioration canals, and in the north part there is a non-instrumental grass runway of 800 meters – the documentation says.
According to the plan, the existing grass runway will be kept, and the existing melioration canals need to be reconstructed and fitted with pipes, and certain routes need to be moved as well. The plan takes into consideration the future development of the airport, its extension and increase of capacities. It is pointed out that, according to the planning documentation of a wider area, the planned Silver Lake Airport can be included in the network of the regional offer.
– The plan includes the construction of an east-west runway with taxiways, which is to be built in phases: 1,500 meters in the first phase, while reserving space for continued construction and development of the airport in the future, with the runway length of 1,800 meters in the second phase and 2,400 meters in the third phase. Another planned grass runway is to cross the east-west runway at an angle – the study says.
In the south zone of the area covered by the plan, there should be zones for public-commercial features and technical features of the Silver Lake Airport.
Access to the airport complex is planned through a new road, which branches off from the existing traffic route which leads to the tourist settlement of Beli Bagrem.
It is pointed out that the main goal of the preparation of the plan is to provide spatial conditions for a touristic and economic development of the area, which will be achieved through the construction of the Silver Lake Airport.
– With the construction of the airport, the traffic communication would become substantially more efficient, which would be reflected in a greater interest of potential investors and improvement of the area's availability – says the planning document, which was prepared by Arhiplan from Arandjelovac and Andzor Engineering from Novi Sad.
According to the Regional Spatial Plan for the Podunavlje and Branicevo districts, the plan is to keep the existing sports-touristic airports (Radinac – Smederevo, Rudine – Smederevska Palanka and Kostolac), along with the rehabilitation of the runways when possible in the upcoming period and even give these airports a wider, regional importance, and the construction of new airports is not out of the question either.
The study is up for public review until August 25, 2020.
