Chemical Park Prahovo a Step Closer to Realization – Detailed Regulation Plan Envisages Construction of New Industrial Complex, Ecological and Energy Island
As announced earlier, the first phase of the development of the complex of a total of 115 hectares with the construction of the accompanying infrastructure, could attract up to 30 foreign investors, and the park's annual income is estimated at around EUR 1 billion, 90% of which would be made of exports.
The spatial unit IHP Prahovo, covered by the plan, has around 323.62 ha and entails the existing complex of IHP Prahovo along with the planned expansion.
A space for the future development of an industrial complex, the construction of an industrial park, a chemical park, an energy island, an ecology island and an expansion of the phosphogypsum storage facility is planned within this unit.
The purpose of the areas is designed so as to isolate the existing industrial complex, the planned chemical park and the planned industrial park as separate functional units.
Industrija hemijskih proizvoda (IHP) Prahovo was founded in 1960 as a chemical part of the metallurgy complex of the Bor basin. Later, through phase development, IHP Prahovo expanded its capacities and range of products. In 1968 and 1978, phosphoric acid facilities I and II started operating.
In addition to the chemical part, the transportation part, for massive cargo, was developed, which led to the formation of the Port of Prahovo, Recno Brodarstvo Krajina (RBK) and an internal transport system based on road and rail infrastructure.
Today, Elixir Prahovo – Industrija hemijskih proiyvoda d.o.o. Prahovo is a large chemical complex for the production of base chemical products, known for the production and processing of the phosphoric component and production of mineral fertilizers, with a remarkable development potential in the later phases of processing of the phosphoric component. The phosphoric acid produced at Elixir Prahovo is used in the production of mineral fertilizers and feed phosphates in the facilities in Prahovo and the Elixir Zorka factory in Sabac.
