The agreement on the preparation of the project-technical documentation for the project of the construction of the subway system in Belgrade was signed today by representatives of the city administration, the PUE Belgrade Subway (Beogradski Metro) and the French company Egis.

– Today we are witnessing the signing of the commercial agreement on the preparation of the feasibility study for the construction of the Belgrade subway, whereby we are realizing the donation made by the French government and commencing the realization of the largest infrastructural investment in this part of Europe, worth EUR 6 billion – stated Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic.

Mihajlovic said that the feasibility study would be done in a year and a half, when the construction of the 60-km subway with 60 stations should begin.

Olivier Bouvart, the CEO of Egis Rail, said that the company was strongly dedicated to a successful realization of the project.

– We are proud that we are participating in the realization of a project that is this important to Serbia. I ensure you that we will give it our best for it to be carried out successfully, to the benefit of the citizens of Belgrade and Serbia. I thank your government for its help and support – Bouvart said.

Let us remind that the French company Egis has completed the General Project and the Preliminary Feasibility Study for Subway Lines 1 and 2 in line with its agreement with the City of Belgrade, and more about the routes can be found in a separate article.

The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, also recently announced that the construction of the Belgrade subway would begin before the end of 2021. He added that the General Regulation Plan of the Rail Systems would be adopted in September, enabling the issuing of the construction permit.

– The plan will also enable the further development of the BG Voz system and the connecting of Surcin and Obrenovac with the system, as well as a better connection of other suburban municipalities – Vesic said on TV Pink, as reported by Beoinfo.

Let us remind that, this February, Vesic announced that the construction of the subway system, which would be worth around EUR 3.8 billion, should begin in late 2020. At a public presentation about the quality of air in Serbia, organized by the Board for Environmental Protection of the National Assembly, he said that, upon the completion of the project, around 30% of the street traffic would move underground.

In mid-May, the governments of Serbia and France signed an agreement on a donation of EUR 8.3 million for the realization and financing of the Belgrade subway project.

– This agreement entails that we will start preparing a feasibility study, a preliminary design and an environmental impact assessment for the first phase, that is, the first subway line. However, we will also get a proposal of the conceptual design of a third subway line in Belgrade – Zorana Mihajlovic said at the time and added that there were talks with Chinese partners at the same time.

The public procurement plan of the Secretariat for Public Transport in Belgrade envisaged for the contest for the designing of the subway station to open in June.

The General Regulation Plan of Rail Systems in Belgrade envisages for the BG Subway stations to be built in four ways. More details can be found here.
