The installation of the piles for the construction of a new 1.3-km bridge on the Sava, for the highway and the high-speed route Ruma-Sabac-Loznica, has begun, and Serbian Construction Minister Zorana Mihajlovic announced that the bridge should be completed in late 2022.

Nikola Karadzic, the head of the project from the PE Corridors of Serbia, said that the works were being carried out on the Macva side, on the access structure, at that moment.

– The piles are being built and prepared for installation in the Sava river. This bridge connects two sections – the highway from Ruma to Sabac and the high-speed route from Sabac to Loznica and is 1.3 km long. The works are progressing at a satisfactory pace – Karadzic said, as announced on the ministry's website.

Murat Turkoglu, the director of the Azerbaijani company Azvirt, which is carrying out works on this section, said that it was a privilege to build in Serbia and work with prominent construction and engineering experts and professionals and that the infrastructure was the basis of any country's economic prosperity.

– The construction of this bridge is another indicator of the development of the transportation infrastructure in Serbia. Bridges are the strongest symbols in the human society – symbols of connection, cooperation and harmony. In the name of Azvirt, I express gratitude to the governments of Serbia and Azerbaijan for being dedicated to the strategic partnership and cooperation in many sectors, infrastructure included. Together, we will use all the capacities and do everything in our power to realize this project, complying with all the global standards and using innovative mechanization – he said.

– Regarding this project, I am proud that this part of Serbia will get an important traffic route – the quickest connection with BiH and Republika Srpska, but also with Novi Sad. It is important for us to connect with the region, but it is just as important for parts of Serbia to be connected by good infrastructure. The investment is worth close to half a billion euros, and the bridge will be finished toward the end of 2022, with all the support and all the challenges – Mihajlovic said.
