Forged Money Reduced by 35.2% – Banknotes of EUR 100 and RSD 1,000 Most Frequently Forged

In the first half of the year, the number of detected forged dinar banknotes is lower by 35.2%, whereas the number of forged FX banknotes is lower by 75.6% compared to the same period last year, according to the semi-annual Report on Detected Forged Banknotes of the National Bank of Serbia.

The NBS says that the suspected forged banknotes were examined by fewer employees than usual due to the pandemic.

In the first half of the year, 1,247 forged dinar banknotes were discovered, worth a total of over RSD 1.5 million.


The most frequent banknotes where those of 1,000 and 2,000 dinars, making up nearly three quarters of the confirmed forgeries.

Among the 248 forged FX banknotes, 88% are euros, whereas American dollars made up 10.9% of the forgeries.

The most forged FX banknote is the EUR 100 one, followed by banknotes of EUR 50 and USD 100.
