One of the central squares in the capital of Serbia should get a new look. The City of Belgrade has opened a tender for the preparation of technical documentation for the purpose of the reconstruction of the square.

The basis for the preparation of the documentation for the reconstruction of the square is the design authored by architects Zorica Savicic and Zoran Dmitrovic.

In 2016, the design won first award at the public contest for the design for the three central squares in Belgrade (Nikola Pasic Square, Terazije and Republic Square), organized by the City of Belgrade in cooperation with the organizer of the contest, the Association of Belgrade Architects.

At the moment, the state of the paving layer on the square is poor, with a tendency toward further deterioration, and the lighting and the urban furniture on the square are also in a fairly bad condition, which affects the appearance of the square.

Therefore, as the documentation says, the reconstruction of the square, which covers an area of around 8,000 m2, should envisage a flexible, multipurpose space, suitable in terms of elevation and equipped with infrastructure for various events throughout the year.

The access zone in front of Kombank Dvorana should be designed so as to mark the entrance and enable unobstructed access for all user categories.

The Monument to Nikola Pasic should be integrated into the environment in terms of its position and its pedestal, and, as said, the author of the monument and the City Commission for Monuments should be consulted accordingly.

The fountain is to keep its position, but the option of a redesign should be considered, entailing a potential change of its geometry, so that the fountain area remains visually and technically accessible throughout the year.

On the south side of the square, in the location of the current planter, a location should be envisaged form which the area of the National Assembly and the beginning of Kralja Aleksandra Blvd should be visible. The existing trees are to be kept, and the option of increasing the green areas on the square should be considered as well.

Also, as the documentation says, the project should be harmonized with the city strategy and plan of introducing bicycle traffic in the city center.

The area belongs to the zone of the spatial-cultural historical area of Terazije, that is, a cultural good zone.

Bids may be submitted by August 3, at 10 am, whereas the public opening of the bids will take place on the same date, half an hour later.
