The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Branislav Nedimovic said today that all necessary flood protection measures have been taken and announced that a special aid programme for those who suffered significant damages due to heavy rainfall was in the works, the official Government of Serbia website states.

In an interview on Pink TV he said he expected the flooding would decrease during the day and pointed out that it was necessary to invest in water management facilities.

According to Nedimovic, the timely reaction and cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and water management companies prevented the situation from becoming critical. He added that it was especially important that there were no casualties.

Nedimovic confirmed that emergency was declared in nine municipalities and that there was a problem on Tamis river but that the situation was on the mend.

– We have taken all precautions and we expect the situation to totally deescalate by the end of the day. If it wasn't for this eight-kilometer-long embankment, which was erected several years ago, Jadar river would already flood the farms, the Minister said.

He added that they protected Valjevo from being flooded and that they solved the problem on Kolubara river.
