The expansion of Free Zone Zrenjanin from 98 to over 390 hectares, approved by the Government of Serbia, will bring many benefits to the investors that will operate in that zone, the mayor of Zrenjanin, Cedomir Janjic, told Beta.

– In the preceding period, there had been a problem with the lack of land for investors, so the City Assembly adopted the decision on the expansion of the industrial zone by another 500 hectares of urban construction land, and now, for the needs of new investors, the Government had adopted the decision on the expansion of the Free Zone in the Southeast territory, where the investors that raise industrial facilities in that zone will get benefits for their membership – Janjic said.

The explanation of the decision by the Government of Serbia says that, in a part of the extension, in the Southeast industrial zone, Linglong International Europe Zrenjanin, a part of the Chinese company Shandong Linglong Tire, will operate, as will the Chinese Green Miles Chemicals, headquartered in Novi Sad.

The explanation also says that the expansion of Free Zone Zrenjanin area also enables the achievement of the main goals of free zones – an improvement of the economic growth, export and reduction of unemployment, as well as other positive effects.

Free Zone Zrenjanin, which was founded in 2005 by the City of Zrenjanin and the company Kolpa, covers three locations – Bagljas and Southeast industrial zones and a location in Cvetna Street.

The tenants are Draxlmaier from Germany, the Slovenian company Kolpa, the Swedish company LK Armatur and the French Novares.

According to the report on the operations of free zones from 2018, a total turnover of EUR 370 million had been realized in that zone.

The decision on the approval of the expansion of Free Zone Zrenjanin was adopted by the Government of Serbia at a session held on May 28, 2020.
