The boring of the longest road tunnel in the country, Munjino Brdo, on the highway section Preljina-Pozega, will start in the upcoming weeks, the PE Roads of Serbia told Tanjug.

They add that the machines have already bored through more than 40 meters of the hill through which the Laz tunnel, almost three kilometers long, will go through.

After the beginning of the works on the construction of the Preljina-Pozega highway section of 30.9 kilometers on Corridor 11 (E-763) was officially marked almost a year ago, the cleaning of the terrain for the construction of the Munjino Brdo Tunnel began this February.

Nearly a third of the 30.93-km route on the future highway from Preljina to Pozega, whose contracted value is USD 523,530,000, is to consist of bridges and tunnels.

By the end of last week, the machines had gone 40 meters deep into the hill. The Laz Tunnel will be nearly three kilometers long.

In the first part of the section, from the Preljina toll booth to Pakovrace, power, TC, water and gas installations are to be moved in a total of 73 locations, says the PE Roads of Serbia.

The Munjino Brdo Tunnel is also being built on the highway from Preljina to Pozega, where the access platforms and the access area in front of the 2.8-km tunnel have been established.

The contractor on this section, which is the continuation of the project of the construction of the Belgrade-South Adriatic highway, of 258 km, is China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

Full excavation works have been carried out in the Laz Tunnel, which will have two tubes (around 2,700 and 2,900 meters), and the slope of the entrance portal has been secured up to the top of the tunnel.

A total of 27 meters has been bored through in the left tube, as well as 40 meters in the right one.

In the Munjino Brdo Tunnel, the access ramps and the access area at the entrance section, as well as 70% of the drainage canal, have been completed.

They say that there are around 125 workers and 30 different types of mechanization at the construction site.

– The route from Preljina to Pozega is very demanding, due to its topographic and geological features, but also because the existing technical infrastructure needs to be moved – the PE Roads of Serbia explains.

In addition to these two tunnel, the Trbusani Tunnel (around 300 m), 35 bridges of 5,196 meters in total, four overpasses of 592 meters in total, embankments of nearly two million cubic meters and the entire Pakovrace interchange, which will help unload the existing bypass route around Cacak, are to be built as well, whereas the entire route will feature three interchanges.

– In the first part of the section from the existing Preljina toll booth to Pakovrace, of 14.3 kilometers, power, TC, water and gas installations need to be moved in 73 spots where they collide with the planned route – the PE Roads of Serbia says.

The tunnels Laz and Munjino Brdo are currently the longest tunnels in Serbia, and more than three kilometers of piles need to be installed in order to secure the slopes at the exit from the Laz tunnel.
