Construction of “New Dorcol” Complex – Modern Building Materials and Lafarge Innovative Solutions in Service of Re-urbanization and Preservation of Historical Heritage
The construction of the residential-office complex “New Dorcol” in Venizelosova Street starts this March. The planned area of the facilities is around 100,000 m2, and it includes over 500 apartments of various structures, ground floor outlets and over 700 parking spaces within a two-tier garage, whereas the facilities themselves will be surrounded by 4,000 m2 of green areas. The realization of the project also entails the reconstruction of the former textile center, the so-called Platnara building, located within the parcel; the historical facility will be preserved and incorporated in the new multipurpose complex.
This area was the location of the center of the textile industry, opened in 1897. After WW2, an elevator factory called “David Pajic Daka” open in the same location.
– By implementing its materials and adequate solutions, Lafarge BFC is making an indelible mark in the construction of modern Belgrade, and by taking part in projects such as the “New Dorcol” complex, we are giving our contribution to preserving the cultural and historical heritage, which we are especially proud of – they say at Lafarge.
– In order to meet the demands of the construction plan and the complexity of the facility, we opted to produce and deliver concrete with two types of cement. For the needs of construction of massive plates, where individual units have a volume of 500 m3 and a thickness of 0.80 m, concrete with the CEM II/B-M (V-L) 42.5N cement is used. This kind of concrete is ideal for massive concrete works. The dynamics of works in such facilities is of great importance, which is why structural walls and columns use the Lafarge cement of the CEM II/A-M (S-L) 42.5R type. By combining these two types of concrete (link), in line with the purposes of the construction site, a step forward was made in the sense of quality and dynamics – Lafarge points out.
With the construction of the facilities in lower Dorcol, the former industrial zone will be transformed into an urban complex, with elements of late 19th century architecture. The “New Dorcol” project is a positive example of a building intervention in the old core of Belgrade, which will, on one hand, contribute to modernizing this part of the Serbian capital and, on the other, help preserve the cultural heritage by including former industrial facilities into modern life.
