The delivery of chloroquine produced at Galenika, a medicine used in treating COVID-19, to hospitals in Serbia, began on May 1, the National Health Insurance Fund said.

The first quantities were delivered from the Central Storage Area of the NHIF to the Clinical-Hospital Center of Zemun, and all the other hospitals where COVID-19 patients are treated in Serbia will get them as well in the upcoming days.

Chloroquine, which is used to treat lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, has turned out to be a good therapy for coronavirus.

Countries worldwide have included it in their therapy protocols. So far Serbia has been importing it, and the domestic pharma company Galenika has now started producing it.
