The agenda of REM's meeting on March 27 included the decision on issuing the permit for the provision of media services based on a request filed by Adria Media Group d.o.o. Beograd – Kurir TV.

The decision has not yet been published on the website of the regulatory body, but Adria Media Group, the publisher of Kurir, confirms that they've been greenlit by REM.

– We have been approved by REM, pertaining to a permit for cable broadcast – Irena Petrovic, the PR Manager of AMG, told Cenzolovka.

She added that the date of the beginning of the broadcast had not yet been set.

– The exact date will depend on the new situation regarding the coronavirus crisis. At the moment, it is important for us to orient to producing the content, complying with all the safety measures – Petrovic emphasized.

Kurir TV will initially only be available to the users of MTS IPTV and Supernova cable system, but AMG hopes that they will “reach an agreement with all other operators in the territory of Serbia”.

AMG says that the program of the new TV station will be “in the spirit of the Kurir brand, that is, a combination of information and entertainment program” and adds that they are convinced that the program “will be interesting and relevant to a wide target audience, as is the case with the online and the print editions”.

– The project of the TV edition of the Kurir brand entails the employment of an additional 100 journalists and TV experts. Of course, their number will change with time, in line with the demands of the market and the growth of the Kurir brand. We will increase the number of offices in Serbia, as the Kurir brand focuses on Serbia – Petrovic says.

The launching of this TV station was announced back in 2015. Last February, the media reported that “several TV studios are being built at the seat of AMG for a new TV station which will start broadcasting in April”.

Allegedly, the station was supposed to be called K1, “being number 1 on the list of TV channels within Telekom's offer, as a counterpoint to SBB's N1”. The media speculated in early 2019 that Igor Zezelj's Mondo Inc was only formally behind the acquisition of AMG in late 2018 and that the real purchaser was in fact Telekom Srbija.

A TV channel called K1 in fact did open and on Telekom's platform too, but behind it and another two TV channels, TV Doktor and Kazbuka, is singer Zeljko Joksimovic.
