The development of the first Serbian respirator is on its way. According to the announcements, the first five will be finished by April 30. The first Serbian respirator is being developed by a team consisting of people from Smart Research and the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, with the support of the Innovation Fund.

– As part of the Innovation Fund's invitation, we got the project of developing respirators in line with the current conditions in Serbia. We were given a really short deadline, 30 days, but we believe it can be done – Marko Panic of SmartResearch said on TV Prva.

– We will work on having the first functional device ready in 30 days – Panic said.

– Our projection is that we could produce 10 to 100 respirators a day. We have already contacted companies which claim they can produce 60 mechanical parts a day, as getting the parts is the biggest problem here – says Vladimir Nesic of the Science-Technology Park Belgrade.

He invited everybody who produces or procures electromagnetic valves or membrane pneumatic pumps to contact the Fund and help.

Nesic notes that the arms industry and the aviation industry could get involved as well, for the purpose of mass production of respirators.

– The testing will have to be greatly accelerated – Nesic adds.
