Elektromreza Srbije has signed an agreement with representatives of the consortium of contractors on the construction of a 400-kV powerline between Kragujevac and Kraljevo of 60 kilometers in length, and the total value of the works and the equipment is EUR 13.5 million, the Ministry of Mining and Energy announced.

The works should begin in about thirty days, under full compliance with the security measures due to coronavirus.

The agreement was signed by the director of EMS, Jelena Matejic, and a representative of the consortium, Mladen Zujkovic, in the presence of the Minister of Mining and Energy of Serbia, Aleksandar Antic.

Antic said that the high-voltage powerline between Kragujevac and Kraljevo was the first infrastructure facility to be built after the implementation of the state of emergency in Serbia, which, as he said, “says enough about the remarkable significance of this project within the Trans-Balkans Corridor of power transfer.”

– The construction of this power route will have a considerable impact on the total energy stability of the region, considering that it connects us with east Europe through Romania, and with west Europe as well, in the next phases – Antic said.

As explained, the powerline is a part of the second section of the Trans-Balkans Corridor for the transfer of electricity, a project of special national and regional importance, which will enable a safe and stable supply with electricity for consumers in the territory of Serbia, while also connecting the markets of east and west Europe.

– Along with the construction of the powerline, the second section entails the raising of the voltage level of TS Kraljevo 3 to 400kV and equipping a 400-kV high voltage line bay at TS 400/110kV Kragujevac 2 – the announcement says.

The deadline for the completion of the works is 610 days. The total investment value of the second section, along with the works on the substations in Kragujevac and Kraljevo, is EUR 29.6 million.

The financing is realized through a loan of EUR 15 million approved for EMS by the German development bank KfW (with a state guarantee), a donation of EUR 6.5 million from the EU, which will be allocated to EMS through the EU mechanism of the Western Balkans Investment Framework from the Europe Western Balkans Joint Fund (to be directly paid by KfW), as well as through EMS' own funds.

As said, after the second section of the Trans-Balkans Corridor is completed, the third section is to be realized, entailing the construction of a double 400-kV powerline Bajina Basta-Obrenovac (109 km), the raising of the voltage of TS Bajina Basta to 400 kV and the equipping of two new 400-kV high voltage line bays at TS 400/220 kV Obrenovac, and then the fourth section, which entails the construction of a double 400-kV powerline Bajina Basta-Visegrad-Pljevlja.
