This Friday, March 13, the Government of Serbia adopted a decree defining the Spatial Plan of the special-purpose area for the realization of the Jadar project of exploitation and processing of the jadarite mineral, as announced in The Official Gazette.

This document is the planning basis for the development of a mine, an industrial facility and the necessary infrastructure, as well as for protection, use and development of the special-purpose area Jadar.

The spatial plan was prepared in line with the studies and the documentation provided by Rio Sava Exploration d.o.o. Beograd, the current carrier of the authorization for the execution of geological explorations of boron and lithium at the Jadar site.

Rio Sava operates as part of the global mining corporation Rio Tinto, and the jadarite mineral (sodium-lithium-boron-silicate) was found in the Jadar river valley.

The spatial plan covers 293.9 square kilometers in the territory of Loznica and Krupanj.

The area features four partially or fully protected areas, the most important of which is Trsic-Tronosa.

The jadarite site itself is located in the river valley on agricultural land, and the mineral is located at the depth of 100 to 720 meters.

According to this document, the zone of mining activities will spread on 854.8 hectares, the zone of production-industrial activities will take up 646.5 hectares, whereas the disposal of industrial waste and construction of access roads and side infrastructure will be carried out on a zone of 358.5 hectares.

The buyout of land and real estate and the moving of households outside the special-purpose complex is planned for the purposes of the development of the Jadar project.
