The Jadar Project, pertaining to a large lithium site near Loznica, seems to be a step closer to being realized. The company Rio Tinto, which has so far invested and set aside more than USD 200 million in the development of this project, is seeking services for engineering-geological and geotechnical explorations, as well as the supervision over the realization of field works and lab tests. Also, a tender for the consultant for the preparation of a study of resources and reserves, as well as a mining feasibility study, is in progress.

The realization of the engineering-geological and geotechnical explorations entails exploratory boring with adequate in situ tests, hydrogeological explorations and the installation of a piezometer, the establishment of exploration pits, lab tests and geodetic surveys of the locations.

The works are estimated to entail boring to 2,500 meters, with the accompanying hydrogeological explorations. The bid submission deadline is February 28.

Also, as stated in the invitation for the consultant, it is necessary for the future consultant to be registered in line with the domestic laws and to be authorized to provide the required services.

The bid submission deadline is February 28, 2020.

Let us remind that Rio Tinto announced earlier that the completion of the long-running phase of geological explorations was expected in early 2020. Also, in late 2019, a spatial plan of the Jadar Project was presented.

The Jadar Project entails works on the development of an underground mine and the construction of an industrial facility for metallurgy-technological processing of the jadarite concentrate. The expected end-products are boric acid and lithium carbonate, of a 99.5% purity, necessary for the production of lithium batteries.
