Zlatibor Gondola to see first passengers in May
This project of the municipality of Cajetina, worth EUR 13 million, will substantially complement the tourist offer of Zlatibor and contribute to an increase in the number of guests on one of the most popular mountains in Serbia.
– The most intensive works are being carried out at the interim station next to Lake Ribnica, where garages are being completed, where the construction of the interim station is being finished and where the machine room and electrical installations are being set up. The entire mechanism that makes the gondola run is located here by Lake Ribnica – said Bojana Bozanic, the director of the PE Gold Gondola.
– We are currently stretching the main cable from the starting point to the interim station, which is about 4.5 kilometers in one direction. The cable weighs around 90 tons, so it's a challenge – says Aleksandar Kalicanin of the contractor Amiga Kraljevo.
Parallel with connecting the starting point, the interim station and Tornik across 36 columns, electrical works are being carried out, the substation is being connected and the communication-signal cable is being installed.
Once the construction works are done, the first test ride and the procedure of technical acceptance will take place. The gondola is expected to see its first passengers in May 2020.
A total of 600 passengers will be able to travel in 55 cabins along the 9-km route each hour.
