British company Aptiv to build factory in Zajecar on 40,000 m2 – Investment worth EUR 20 million, jobs for 2,000 workers
The negotiations about the opening of Aptiv's factory in Zajecar took almost a year. In the end, everything ended with the signing of the memorandum of understanding, and the works on the opening of the factory, a greenfield investment, are expected to start in early 2020.
After Leskovac and Novi Sad, the British manufacturer of electronic and electrical equipment for vehicles will thereby open another factory in Serbia, and close to EUR 20 million will be invested in the construction of this facility, according to the information available.
According to unofficial information, Aptiv should open a facility of 40,000 m2 in Zajecar. Considering the nature of the planned activities, it would primarily employ technical workers.
Aptiv initially wanted the new factory to be opened at the very entrance to Zajecar from the direction of Bor, not far from the Gorenje factory, but after a detailed analysis, they decided to raise the factory in the industrial zone on Zvezdanski Put.
As the town on the Timok, whose National Employment Service branch has around six thousand unemployed people in its register, does not have enough qualified workers, a possibility is being considered of employing people from all towns and municipalities of Timocka Krajina at the factory, which is why it will be necessary for the workforce to be additionally trained for Aptiv's needs.
Aptiv previously opened a facility worth nearly EUR 30 million in Leskovac, where there are currently 300 employees. A total of around two thousand workers are expected to be employed here by 2020. This British company, headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, operates in 45 countries, employing 147,000 workers.
