Funds for new border crossing Bajina Basta and Kotroman secured – Free internet to be provided
Vorkapic announces that free internet for all passengers will be made available at all the main road border crossings beginning with mid-2020.
The Bajina Basta border crossing should be completed in December 2020, whereas the construction on Kotroman will take until June 2021.
The Horgos border crossing to Hungary will be expanded next year, Vorkapic says for Tanjug.
– The aim is for each of the border crossing to another country to have as many lanes as the one in the territory of the country in question, so as to reduce the traffic congestion – Vorkapic says.
As for the Vatin border crossing, the property-legal relations are currently being resolved, after which the construction and the reconstruction of this busiest border crossing to Romania will begin.
On April 1, 2019, RDI took over the jobs of construction, equipping and maintenance on 49 border crossings in Serbia. Until then, these jobs were divided between several state institutions.
Vorkapic says that RDI has applied smaller border crossings, such as Mali Zvornik, Bezdan, Uvac and Bogojevo, at the European Commission so as to finance the construction and the adaptation of these border crossings, through the IPA funds. If the EC approves the funds, the state will cover 15% from the budget, whereas 85% is to be provided by the EU. Smaller structures of container type and new road infrastructure will be built in these locations.
As Vorkapic says, RDI does not aim to build large, expensive infrastructure, because he believes that at one point they will no longer be needed, once Serbia joins the EU.
