For a number of years, logistics and transport, as extremely important economic areas, have been contributing to increased efficiency and profitability of other fields. It has been noticed that logistics processes can lead to substantial savings and the field is therefore seen in a different light, with more complexity.

As a potentially good place to make savings, logistics and transport have seen prices drop multiple times in the past decades, globally. In that period, the reduction of the prices of logistics and transport services was observed less systematically and not enough attention was paid to the effects which were inevitable with time. The tendency was for the economy to be adapted to new market conditions as fast as possible and offer the cheapest product possible.

In choosing a transporter for any kind of transport, the only focus was on the lowest price as usually the only criterion and there was not enough awareness of the need to choose the most favorable transporter in a wider sense. The questionable competence of the “cheapest” logistics and transportation companies and the risks which would appear led to a degradation, or even destruction, of the finished products that were being transported. There have been countless examples in the world where bad decisions caused serious companies to risk their reputation by not fulfilling the obligation of providing their product to the market or the end-user. As a rule, this led to a drop in the demand and eventually to the loss of the market and clients and even to bankruptcy.

In the past years, the awareness of the producers has increased globally, so many logistics companies are now adapting to that trend, investing in their knowledge and resources. As a global company, SGS has taken an important role in these processes and is recognized in the market as an inevitable chain in all the segments of the supply chain. From the aspect of a control body, SGS has launched a campaign in the world, including Serbia and the region, to the end of promoting the importance of logistics and transportation processes in achieving harmonization between raw materials, semi-products and finished products on the way from the producer to the end-user.

Thanks to this change of awareness and business philosophy, SGS has become an unavoidable partner to production and logistics companies. The desire to have those companies on the list of approved suppliers of products and logistics services, for any serious organization, whether it is a multinational or local company, has shown their need to prove their competence in continually delivering the products and services their client, their interested party, demands.

Our partners, the partners of SGS, have seen that a systemic approach, with clearly defined and delegated responsibilities and authorizations of employees for all processes and activities defined in the organization, through the implementation of the Plan – Execute – Control – Act model, brings benefits and opportunities for new jobs and markets. This allows for management of business risks and a continual improvement of business results. Also, this improves the business culture and the climate within the organization, as well as between business partners.

SGS Belgrade has made great results in educating production and logistics companies in a short amount of time. Training in logistics and transport, which is very specific and demanding, such as, for example, TAPA, Supply Chain Risk Management (related to ISO 27001, ISO 28001, ISO 31000), CORSIA, ISCC, Lean Six Sigma, Risk Management, logistics project management, has brought competitive companies, which are both local and global in the true sense of the word, to the market.

In the context of the role SGS plays in logistics and transportation processes locally and globally, it is necessary to emphasize another very important segment of the company`s competences related to its experiences as a control body. What world companies have been doing with SGS for decades started being implemented in early 21st century in Serbia. Companies which started operating in Serbia continued working with SGS in the local market as well, when it comes to control of raw materials. A good example of this are companies in the agricultural sector, metal processing sector, food industry and other industries. SGS controls raw materials before, during and after the transport from and to the producer. As a control body, SGS has become synonymous with quality, reliability and trust.

Logistics and transport are, like industrial production, of crucial importance for a state, primarily because they ensure the development and implementation of new technologies, new tendencies and knowledge. Together with SGS, they thereby contribute to the development of knowledge, entrepreneurial skills and competitiveness in the market.

To go back to where we started, the global trend which has become increasingly applicable here is for companies to systemically identify, together with SGS, all the potential HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) risks in choosing the best offer in transport and logistics. The main goal of the cooperation is to ensure that the provision of logistics services is in line with all the HSE regulations and technical standards. This way, a proactive and preventive approach ensures increased awareness of health protection and employee safety and a reduction of negative environmental impact risk, while also looking to improve efficiency in energy balance management processes and energy efficiency, which directly improves business results.

That is what makes our slogan true – WHEN YOU NEED TO BE SURE – SGS.
