The construction of the main gas pipeline through Serbia has reached the Hungarian border. Pipes are currently being laid down in the municipality of Kanjiza, near the villages of Velebit and Vojvoda Zimonjic.

This is part of the gas pipeline project between the Bulgarian and the Hungarian border. If everything goes as planned, the works pertaining to the connection to the Russian gas pipeline TurkStream will be completed by the end of the current year, as previously announced.

The workers of the Serbian-Russian company Gastrans are making use of the good weather to complete the final 10 kilometers within the planned deadline.

– This south stream brings security when it comes to gas supply, not just in Serbia, but in all countries it goes through. It is therefore important for Hungary, and probably also for Austria and Germany – said Milos Kravic, the president of the Municipality of Kanjiza.

The construction of the 400-km main gas pipeline should also guarantee energy security for Serbia. The workers say that up to 1,500 meters of pipes are laid down each day. The works began in late April and a large number of local companies are employed on the project.
