The total number of employees in the mining sector as of the third quarter of 2019 amounted to 26,076, and the average net salary in the mining industry in the first eight months of the current year was RSD 87,000, with the gross salary at USD 120,900, said the state secretary at the Ministry of Energy, Stevica Dedjanski.

On the occasion of the marking of three decades from the largest collective mining disaster in the Aleksinac mines, when 90 miners lost their lives, Dedjanski said that the process of exploitation had not yet begun there.

– Geological explorations are being carried here today in order to analyze the possibility of potential exploitation. It's too early to give projections of the state and the potential – Dedjanski told Politika.

Dedjanski said that the interest in the mining business was growing.

Within EPS and the PE Resavica, there are currently 13,635 employees in coal exploitation, Dedjanski said. The total number of employees within the mining basins Kolubara, Kostolac and the nine mines in Resavica is 16,500, he said.

Dedjanski pointed out that there was a large interest in opening new mines by the municipalities where exploration activities were carried out.

– The opening of a mine means a new life for the region. It means new employments, above-average salaries, the collection of mining fees and the use of the proceeds to fix the infrastructure in local self-governments – Dedjanski said.

According to him, the level of investments in the exploitation of minerals is constantly on the rise.

– In 2018 alone, there are USD 100 million realized investments in explorations, and in the period before that, they amounted to USD 25 million – Dedjanski said.
