One of the symbols of the Serbian capital, the Victor monument, will remain slanted. As the straightening of the pedestal might cause even bigger problems, the bronze man will remain slanted after the restoration in Smederevo, the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Belgrade confirms.

Although the media were full of stories of the Victor being slanted once this was learned several years ago, the current reconstruction and restoration will not address this problem, contrary to the expectations of numerous citizens of Belgrade expected, Vecernje Novosti reports.

– The monument has been stabilized in its current position. The conclusion of the expert team is that straightening the monument could cause other problems. It will not be straightened, but the successful static repair will prevent further slanting – the Institute tweeted.

The monument was removed from the pedestal on the upper Belgrade Fortress on October 10.

The Victor was pronounced a cultural good in 1992 and is also part of the Belgrade Fortress cultural monument. It also has the status of a cultural good of remarkable importance for the Republic of Serbia.
