The City of Belgrade is negotiating with several large supermarket chains that are interested in taking over certain non-profitable green markets, Deputy Mayor Goran Vesic said and announced that the first among them would be the Banjica green market.

As he pointed out, the City of Belgrade has carried out an analysis of the operations of all the green markets, showing that a part of them are not profitable. It has therefore been decided for partners to be found which would invest in their development and maintenance.

– We will carry this out through a process of a public-private partnership. We will open a tendering procedure. This will provide a better service, develop the green markets and reduce the losses – Vesic says and adds that partners will be sought for 10-15 green markets.

Vesic announced this at a forum organized at the Banjica Community Center, where he told the gathered citizens that the city would be more able to solve their problems than before, given the next year's budget of EUR 1.2 billion.
