The leading international producers of fresh fruit and vegetables will gather in Belgrade in November for the Fruitnet Forum for Southeast Europe, in order to identify new possibilities for the region when it comes to investments, agricultural varieties, technologies, the market and the cooperation.

The Fruitnet Forum for Southeast Europe, one of the main international networking events in the fresh fruit and vegetables industry, will be organized in Belgrade on November 6-7, gathering regional and international producers and companies active in the production of fresh fruit and vegetables.

On top of focusing on new strategies for attracting investments, promoting cooperation, improving the quality and penetrating new markets, this year’s event will also include a B2B Café, which will enable the delegates to meet and have discussions with international customers from the companies Tesco, Asda-Walmart and Carrefour, among others.

Southeast Europe is becoming more important as a source of fresh fruit and vegetables, and Ivana Dulic Markovic from Seedev will open the program by presenting an overview of the market for investments in the region, including the possibilities and the risks, whereas Aleksandar Pavlovic will talk about the progress of the USAID Competitive Economy Project for Serbia.

Ciric Agro, which has grown into one of the biggest exporters of apples from Serbia, will present successful case studies, as will the Turkish exporter Alanar, which has successfully penetrated the lucrative market of eastern Asia, as well as other markets, and Jupiter Marketing, headquartered in Great Britain, which has successfully expanded its production activities to southeast Europe.

Exciting potential of medlars

This year’s event will especially focus on the sector of berries. Hans Liekens of Fall Creek Farm & Nursery, headquartered in the USA, will talk about farming the best blueberry varieties, whereas Irakly Partsvania of Vanrik Agro from Georgia, will talk about the exciting potential of medlars.

Considering the growing demand, Southeast Europe has great potential for development, if it manages to overcome numerous challenges in developing varieties, working the soil after the sowing, market availability, certification, labor force, packaging and logistics.

One of the main goals of the Fruitnet Forum for Southeast Europe is to deepen the understanding of the challenges and see how they can be overcome in the near future.
