First freight train carrying equipment for construction of Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway arrives from China
The train passed through the red ribbon at the New Belgrade Railway Station, marking the official establishment of the first rail cargo line between the two countries.
This was the first direct train from China to Serbia. It transported over 500 tons of equipment for the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway. The train featured 28 cars with containers.
The train departed from Jinan, province of Shandong, on September 24. The ride was around 10,500 kilometers long, and the train passed through China, Mongolia, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary and Serbia.
The cargo consisted of equipment for overhead contact line systems, such as transformers, cables, integrated automation systems for substations, remote control systems for the overhead contact line systems, power supply systems and other equipment.
The said equipment for the traction substation and overhead contact line systems is an important part of the “energy subsystem” within the Technical Specifications of Interoperability.
The materials delivered meet all the European standards and own all the necessary certificates.
Rail transport from China to Serbia ensures the supply of equipment for the high-speed railway project and will accelerate the realization of the works.
The modernization of the Belgrade Center – Stara Pazova railway, 34.5 kilometers long, is part of the project of the railway between Belgrade and Budapest, for speeds up to 200 km/h.
The value of the agreement on the modernization and the construction of the high-speed railway between the Belgrade Center station and Stara Pazova is USD 350 million.
The consortium of China Railway International and China Communications Construction Company is the contractor and the work completion deadline is 36 months from the date of June 5, 2018.
The opening of the rail cargo line between China and Serbia opens possibilities for all business people from Serbia and the region to export their goods to the Chinese market, as well as to import the necessary goods from China, as rail transport is much more cost-effective than air or sea traffic.
