Government of Montenegro adopts concession plan for Kotor-Lovcen gondola – Tendering procedure for first construction phase to follow
– The main objective of the project is to connect the area of the capital of Montenegro with the tourist center in Boka Kotorska, the northwestern side of Lovcen, through a modern, ecological and attractive transport infrastructure system – it was announced after the government’s session held this Thursday in Pljevlja.
The first phase pertains to the most attractive section from the Dub station in Kotor to the Kuk station in Njegusi, of the length of 3.6 kilometers and the altitude difference of 1,298 meters, which is very challenging from the aspect of carrying out the works and treating the natural and the cultural heritage with care. The Italian company Leitner has recently expressed an interest in this section.
It was emphasized during the presentation of the plan that the economic assessments done for the purposes of the project were based, among other things, on the assumptions that the concession period is 30 years, that the construction period is one year and that the operating period is 29 years.
Upon the adoption of the plan, the government will open the tendering procedure where a private concessionaire will be selected for the said section.
It was said during the discussion that, in case of the realization of the entire project, as envisaged in the planning document, this would be the longest tourist gondola route in the world, a project which will be a unique tourist offer for both local and foreign guests.
– The project entails the construction of 15 kilometers of a gondola route, and a ride from the Dub station to Cetinje, at 600 meters above the sea, would take 43 minutes – the press release says.
As said, the route should feature four stations, the start and the end stations in Cetinje and Kotor, as well as two interim stations, Kuk and Ivanova Korita.
