The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is organizing the Consumer Rules Summit conference, dedicated to global trends in agribusiness, FMCG, retail and distribution, on September 30 and October 1, 2019, in Belgrade.

Consumer Rules Summit is conceived as a platform for networking, discussion and exchange of ideas based on experiences and good practices. During the two days, the conference will gather over 30 tops quality speakers and more than 150 participants, including representatives of the leading companies in agribusiness, retail and distribution, but also the wider FMCG industry in the EU, Southeast Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Turkey.

The main topic of the summit is consumption, which makes up nearly 60% of the global GDP and which pushes economic activities. The fourth industrial revolution transforms entire production, distribution and consumption systems, providing possibilities for creating added value through modern technologies. As consumers’ demands change, so do local markets and business models. The conference will therefore deal with how smaller business can efficiently respond to these demands, but also what the interest of global strategic players in Southeast Europe is and whether market consolidation is good news for consumers.

The participants will also try to answer the question of what the future of agriculture is in the context of climate change, increased awareness of ecological and social risks and digital transformation and who will win the race.

The topics of how companies fight these challenges, how digital revolution benefits companies, how to have a fair relationship with your partners, the environment, employees and suppliers will be discussed by more than 30 speakers, including the leading people from the EBRD’s agribusiness team and other teams, MK Group, Atlantic Group, Tikves, Al Dahra Holding, Imlek, Podravka, Mercator, Nectar, Bing, the Voli retail chain and many other companies.

The discussion will also be joined by representatives of other successful companies, such as the French Axereal, which is organized as a cooperative and operates in the Danube area countries, the Hungarian Bonafarm, the Romanian Agricover, and the Czech KMV, which recently became the owner of Knjaz Milos.

The speakers and panelists will also talk about whether the region is a suitable environment for investments, which entails access to finance, predictable policies and a stable business environment, and whether we can use the opportunity when it comes to food production.

The organizers aim to offer a platform for creating the conditions for a sustainable growth of the agribusiness sector in the developing region and for companies to recognize the EBRD as a complementary partner whose investments contribute to the realization of this goal.
