The arrival of the Chinese company Linglong Tire, which will open a tire factory in Zrenjanin, is the main reason for the project of the “Vojvodina P” road to be transferred from the Provincial Government of Vojvodina to the Government of Serbia and for the consequent change of the type of this traffic route.

The “Vojvodina P”, that is, the project of the high-speed route Novi Sad-Zrenjanin and Zrenjanin-Borca was stopped on the level of Vojvodina, which then also gave up on it completely once the Government of Serbia announced that it had different plans for this traffic route.

The plan entails turning the route into a highway after all, requiring new project documentation and the resolving of other issues (such as those concerning property).

As the president of the Provincial Government, Igor Mirovic, recently said for 021, these issues would not have occurred had the old project of building a high-speed route been kept.

The Ministry of Transport told the 021 portal that the arrival of Linglong Tire was “the beginning of the largest greenfield investment in the Republic of Serbia”, but that the arrival of other previously announced in Zrenjanin, central, northern and eastern Banat was also expected.

– Connecting Zrenjanin to Novi Sad and Belgrade by highway will enable a quicker and safer traffic between there three cities, a quicker and safer connecting of northern, eastern and central Banat and Belgrade and the administrative center of Vojvodina. Also, the realization of this project is at the stage of the preparation of the project task, which also entails the selection of the optimal route for the highway, especially for the Belgrade-Zrenjanin direction, and the defining of the project task for the preparation of the special purpose area. After that, the preparation of the project-technical documentation will start – the Ministry of Transport specifies the details of this project.

When asked when the works are planned to be carried out, those in charge say that this will be known once the project is prepared and that no estimates have been made so far.

The foundation stone for the construction of the tire factory in Zrenjanin was laid on March 30 in the presence of Serbia’s top state authorities. The company has announced the employment of 1,200 workers. A total of EUR 800 million will be invested in the factory.
