The director of the Office for Information Technologies and Electronic Government, Mihailo Jovanovic, and the regional director of IBM, Natasa Sekulic, have signed a memorandum of understanding whereby IBM, one of the leading IT companies in the world, joins the ranks of IT giants interested in using the capacities of the State Data Center in Kragujevac. Memorandums of Understanding have already been signed by Microsoft, Oracle and Postanska Stedionica Bank.

– One of the biggest indicators of the huge regional and global potential and the high technical and security quality of the future State Data Center in Kragujevac is the interest of global IT giants in using the center's commercial capacities. We intend to work together on establishing and exploiting the infrastructure within the State Data Center (cloud systems, data security systems etc.) and to use new technologies such as AI, IoT, or blockchain to the end of developing the eGovernment. If large IT companies decide to open their data centers in Serbia, it will be invaluable for the further development of the ICT sector of Serbia.

In early July 2019, the beginning of the construction of the State Data Center in Kragujevac was officially marked. This will be one of the 10 most energy-efficient data centers in the world and will be fully owned by the Republic of Serbia. It will have a maximum capacity of 1,180 rack cabinets, over 5 times more than the current Data Center in Belgrade. The Data Center in Kragujevac will be able to meet the highest technical standard of reliability, Tier 4.

The value of the investment in the first phase is EUR 30 million, and the construction will take one year.
