The Municipality of Irig has initiated the project of the preparation of the Detailed Regulation Plan for the center of Vrdnik, in which RSD 2 million will be invested. As they told eKapija, a half of the funds will be provided by the municipality, whereas the other half will be provided by the Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning and Environmental Protection.

– The project entails the reconstruction of the park and the green market in Vrdnik and the bridge which connects them. This is an important infrastructural project for both Vrdnik and the European Culture Capital, considering that the plan is to revitalize the area completely and turn it into a so-called open space – gallery and performance space (open-air stage, sculpture park etc.) – Bojana Drinic of the municipality of Irig told our portal.

As she pointed out, this project is the foundation for the development of culture in the municipality of Irig in the 2019-2021 period, when it will be a European Culture Capital, together with Novi Sad, Beocin and Sremski Karlovci.

– After a long period of time, the center of Vrdnik will be renewed. As it is well known, the municipality of Irig has a very rich history, and what sets it apart, Vrdnik especially, is that 13 different nations live there. After the project-technical documentation is prepared, the work should begin in early 2020. The tender for the contractors also depends on the project-technical documentation – Drinic said.

The development of the center of Vrdnik is part of the project called “The Reawakening of Fruska Gora”.

– This is a project of the Provincial Government and the Foundation “Novi Sad 2021 – European Culture Capital”, which aims to upgrade the cultural points on Fruska Gora by making numerous locations and events more visible, accessible and attractive through capital infrastructural projects by 2021. Within the project, the house where Borislav Mihajlovic Mihiz, a prominent Serbian writer, was born, was reconstructed and opened this March – Bojana Drinic told our portal.
