Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic has held a preparatory meeting with the Turkish company Tasyapi about the construction of the Sremska Raca-Kuzmin highway and announced that the preparatory works for the new bridge on the Sava in Sremska Raca will begin this week, thereby marking the beginning of the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway.

– Tasyapi is to start with the preparatory works and then the construction works on the section for which it has received a building permit, for the construction of the highway between Belgrade and Sarajevo. This is an important step – Mihajlovic told Tanjug after the meeting.

The Sremska Raca-Kuzmin section is around 18 kilometers long, and the works are worth around EUR 220 million.

Mihajlovic reminded that the commercial contract with Tasyapi had been signed in December 2018 and that everything had been prepared for the works to begin. There are already 1,000 workers at the site ready to start working, and a camp has already been prepared for them.

Tasyapi, she adds, is also preparing the project-technical for the second part of the road to B&H, namely, the Pozega-Kotroman section, which is 63 kilometers long and which has been evaluated at EUR 800 million.

– We are also soon to start the reconstruction of the Novi Pazar-Tutin road with Tasyapi. We hope to start this in the autumn as well – the deputy prime minister added.

With the construction of the Belgrade-Sarajevo highway, Serbia is getting an opportunity of connecting with the European Corridor V, which connects Hungary, Croatia and B&H, whereas B&H will be able to connect with Corridors X and XI in Serbia, that is, with the Belgrade-Sid highway and the traffic route through Pozega.
