Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has informed all business organizations that are preparing for or already export their products to Australia about the new regulations the Government of Australia issued concerning the import of certain goods, that pertain to Serbia too.

New regulations refer to additional inspection control of all packages that arrive to Australian territory from September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020 due to application of seasonal measures for
the brown marmorated stink bug, regional Chamber of Commerce in Nis stated on its web site.

In response to the rapid expansion of brown marmorated sting bug (BMSB ) throughout Europe and North America, Australia has strengthened the seasonal measures to manage risk of BMSB from arriving in Australia for the 2019–20 BMSB risk season. The new measures are the result of testing and research of competent departments in Australian Government based on scientific evidence and data collected from the 2018-19 BMSB season onshore verification activities.

New Zealand will very likely implement preventive measures for the import of certain goods from Serbia too having in mind that Australian Department of Agriculture and Water Resources and New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries worked closely on the 2019-2020 measures to ensure both Australia and New Zealand's BMSB seasonal measures are consistent across the two countries where possible.

Having in mind that Serbia has been categorized as a target risk country, risk goods that arrive to Australian territory September 1, 2019 to May 31, 2020 may be subject to random onshore inspections to verify freedom from BMSB contamination. Goods that have been categorized as target high risk goods and will require mandatory treatment for BMSB risk including thermal processing or fumigation. In addition, these goods will be subject to various level of inspection based on their classification.

Further information about new seasonal measures for BMSB 2019-2020 risk season can be found on Australian Government Department of Agriculture's official website.
