The fate of the Old Sava Bridge and the construction of a new one in Block 70a will depend on the citizens of Belgrade. it is likely that the bridge will be moved, and the citizens of Belgrade will have an opportunity to vote for one of the two options for the moving of the Old Sava bridge, the head urban planner of Belgrade, Marko Stojcic, says for eKapija.

– The first option is for the old bridge to be disassembled and turned into a pedestrian-cycling bridge, which would be located in Block 70a in New Belgrade, toward Ada Ciganlija. The survey will explain the estimated value of these works, as they are a major engineering endeavor – Stojcic says.

The second option is to move the Old Sava Bridge to the Usce Park, between the Usce Business Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art, which eKapija has already written about. If the citizens choose this option, according to Stojcic, it would open a new project of the construction of a new pedestrian-cycling bridge in Block 70a in New Belgrade.

– In this case, the Old Sava Bridge would be repurposed as a lookout point in the Usce Park, as it would be elevated by 4.5 meters. There’s a possibility of having cultural, arts and commercial features beneath it – Stojcic said.

Let us remind that the plan is to build a new bridge in the current location of the Old Sava Bridge. The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Serbia announced on July 26 that it had started looking into the request for deciding on the necessity of an environmental impact study for the construction of a new bridge in the location of the Old Sava Bridge. You can read about what the new bridge will look like in a separate article.
