This year, Serbia will start building 400 kilometers of new highways as part of a new investment cycle to be initiated, announced Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction Zorana Mihajlovic.

– This wouldn't be possible if we were not politically and financially stable – Mihajlovic said on RTS, the ministry announced.

She pointed out that the construction of the Morava Corridor from Pojate to Preljina, of the highway to B&H from Sremska Raca to Kuzmin and the highway and high-speed route Ruma-Sabac and Sabac-Loznica would all begin in the summer.

– The Morava Corridor is especially important as it will connect Serbia internally. We need that central part of the highway, which will not only connect corridors 10 and 11, but also the area with half a million residents and 200,000 small and medium enterprises – the minister said.

Also, she added, the project will include the development of the Morava basin area, being a flooding area, and a telecommunications corridor will be executed as well.

Mihajlovic added that the construction of the Corridor 11 section between Preljina and Pozega had begun as well and noted that the route would branch further to Montenegro and B&H. She said that the construction of the Nis-Merdare-Pristina highway section to Plocnik would begin in 2020.

The minister also announced activities on the eastern leg of Corridor 10, in Sicevo.

– We have completed the southern leg, through Grdelica. The equally important eastern leg remains to be finished, although there are problems with a certain contractor. I will go there with my team in July to see what can be done for this to be completed in the autumn, possible including another contractor – the minister said.
