Cars without steering wheels, fridges ordering food, remote operations – Future comes with 5G network
Driverless cars, operations available at a click or the possibility of having the fridge order food itself are just some of the activities that might become part of everyday life in under 50 years.
– The difference compared to the previous network systems is that 5G can support emergency services, alarms, interventions. It is expected to enable a wide implementation of new technologies, such as autonomous vehicles or the Internet of Everything – said Professor Aleksandar Neskovic, the head of the Telecommunications Department at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade.
Large automotive industries are already developing electric cars without steering wheels or drivers.
– The vehicles will no longer even have steering wheels and will be able to self-park. For example, a car drives you to your workplace, then returns home by itself and drives your children to school it will be programmed to know your route. There are intensive efforts to make this possible and I believe that, in the near future, those vehicles will be available at around EUR 15,000 – Neskovic adds.
The new generation of data transfer will enable the remote execution of operations. Furthermore, everyone is increasingly moving toward the smart city concept.
– It will no longer be necessary for a patient to be transported to another city or state, risking their life. Instead, instruments will be remote-controlled from the doctor's office. On the other hand, the concept of smart cities will raise the safety of citizens to another level, with the software controlling things like traffic lights as well – says Aleksandar Neskovic.
