The construction of the Zemun technical-passenger station, an important part of the Belgrade railway hub, will continue after 40 years, and the works should start between July 15 and 25, announced the director of Srbija Voz, Jugoslav Jovic.

TPS Zemun is meant for the maintenance of passenger trains. A small part of it was built back in the 1970s and put into operation in the early 1980s. Nothing has been done since then.

Srbija Voz told Tanjug that the old facility would be reconstructed, but also that a new, modern section would be built, on a total of 35 hectares of land between the Zemun and Zemun Polje stations, allowing for modern train control and management and great savings in time and money.

Jovic said that, on June 4, following a tendering procedure, an agreement on the execution of works was signed with the consortium of Energoprojekt NiskogradnjaEnergoprojekt Oprema and Colas Rail S.A.S. From France, worth EUR 50.9 million.

This is a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the deadline period for the completion of works is 27 months.

In his statement for Tanjug, Jovic points out that the construction of TPS Zemun creates conditions for modern maintenance of old and new passenger trains, considerably upgrading the work of the employees, increasing traffic safety and improving the level of service, in line with European standards.

– We expect the works to start between July 15 and 25 – Jovic said.

Within the TPS Zemun complex, a unique linear technological process will be formed, unifying all the aspects of the maintenance of electric-engine trains, passenger cars and locomotives, which will increase the availability of trains.

The project entails the construction of a new hall for the maintenance of EMG 413 (Stadler and new EMG engines), a new hall for the maintenance of passenger cars, a new hall for exterior cleaning, a new building for the dispatching of trains, new automatic measuring station for the diagnostics of vehicles, new boiler rooms with a compressor station, 17 km of new tracks and covered pumping stations.

The plan also includes the construction of facilities for temporary storage of waste and facilities for the accommodation of staff.

When it comes to the reconstruction and repair of the existing facility, the plan covers the upper and the lower railway track elements, the hall for the maintenance of EMG 412, the wheel processing facility, sand storage and oil and water storage.
